LITTLE AKALOA.

A Little Akaloa correspondent writes :•— The usual monthly meeting of the Little Akaloa school Committee was held on Saturday evening, all members present The Chairman said the business of the eveniDg was to pahs monthly acoounts and consider Inspector's reports on Main and Side schools, which tbe Committee thought were exceptionally good, as tho attendance had been very irregulnr indeed, and there lind also been a good deal of sickness among the children. Hearty votes of thanks were paused to the teachers for the able manner in which they bad brought the children forward against such odds. After passing monthly accounts tbe meeting terminated. I notice that Messrs Barker & Co., are n-i<*ki*ng good propresß with their contract for telephone poles Should the weather hold fine it will not be long before they have them on tho line, Mr T. Mcintosh jun., being busy laying them in the required placep, and making very quick work of it. I trust once they are on the line the Government will lose no time in having thttn elected, for it will be a great convenience to tbe localities affected. Mr Priest has also btarted his contract erecting a bridge across the creek on tbe valley road. This bridge iB twenty-Beven feet long in one spin resting on Btone and cement foundations. When completed it will be quite nn ornament to tbe bay. It ia to be hoped that the contractor will do well out of it as it is a risky undertaking tbis time of the year. I notice also that the Road Board irembers are not satisfied with having had roads, but must add to their badness by having them done up, causing them to be knee deep with mud and slush, which ie very pleasant on a dark night, and makes one wish that the members were tbu other eido of Jordan.
