LE BON'S BAY.

OUT AND ABOUT.

News at the present time is very scarce, and it is a difficult matter to get hold of anything sensational. The -dairy factory is still beiDg vigorously ■discussed, and I believe the Directors are working hard to bring it forward, and they will require to lose no time as the season is last approaching. We should like to see preparations commenced at once for the necessary building, etc., and if, as they say, it is to be •worked by water power, the laying out of the water course and the erection of the wheel should be in hand at no distant date. A slight advance in the price of cocksfoot is rather pleasant news, though causing a slight shock at first, hut still it has a pleasing effect, and we hope that even better prices will be realised ere long. The road known to the Bay as the * Back road ' has quite changed its appearance since the contracts have been let, and when finished -—with the assistance of fine weather-— should prove quite an acquisition to those living in that direction. THE WEATHER. The past week with the exception of Saturday was very gloomy and changeable, and the north easterly wind which commenoed blowing on Wednesday night soon brought in a heavy sea. Saturday it was at its height, and was washing over the road in various places, carrying away the metal and leaving holes here and there. It was indeed a Btrange contrast to look out upon the ocean in its troubled state compared with the beautiful day, which was in every sense of the word a spring day. It seemed remarkable that the tramway that was built when the road was washed away some time back should stand the heavy seas as it does, but there it stood resisting the large body of water as it came rolling and sparkling in the sunlight, -sending up the spray 15ft or 20ft high The beach too was well covered with kelp, and the channel of the river was thoroughly well scoured. Sunday was dull and seemed inclined to rain. Monday dawned with a ste-i-ly down pour of rain, which up to the time of writing is showing no signs of abating. The heavy sea has now moderated in the bay, and it is comparativoly calm.
