A spirited discussion came off this afternoon upon the question of putting duty on imported coals, which lasted till dinner adjournment without a division being taken. The member for Mount Ida is in the Rangitiki district assisting his friend Mr Bruce, whose candidature for a seat in the Legislature will be decided to-morrow. Therefore Mr Scobie McKenzie's important motion as to the class of persons his Excellency should be advised to call to the Upper House has been postponed for a fortnight.
