Patearoa.— \ This match, which was played at Patearoa resulted in a win for the visitors. Ranfurly lost the toss and bad to play with t;he sun in their faces. " From -the initial bully Ranfurly carried the ball to Patearoa's circle and goaled. The home team then rallied somewhat and their defence became more stubborn and although Ranfurly had the ball at their opponents' circle practically all the first spell no further score was registered before -the halftime whistle. On resuming Banfurly pressed hard and scored two goals in quick succession. However, Patearoa's gaolie (A. M'Skimming) made many good saves. J. Mawliiney in Eanfurly'a half line, was the outstanding player on the field and all the Ranfurly forward line were worthy of mention. The final score of 5 goals to nil was a fair indication of the merit of the respective teams.

Mr R. H. Templeton was an efficient referee. Waipiata v. Naseby. This match was played on the former club's ground and was keenly contested from start to finish, both teams being evenly matched. The Waipiata team has improved considerably and Naseby were lucky to score just before the final whistle. Naseby 1, Waipiata nil. Mr Bradshaw was the referee, Hyde v. Kyeburn. This match was played on the Gim-. merburu Club's ground and resulted in a win for the home team by 16 points to nil. The game was very uninteresting to watch. The ground was in good order and there was a fair sprinkling of spectators. The ball was difficult to handle. Several good opportunities were missed by both sides. The visitors did not have their full team, several inexperienced players filling the vacancies. The home team was also weakened by the absence of several of their best players. The Berry brothers and Dowdle were the pick of the Becks' forwards. Leask did useful work and Sweeney was a safe fullback. J. O'Neill, who filled a vacancy in the Gimmerburn forward division played a good game and, along with Lewis, were the best. O'Neill brothers prominent in the line-

outs. In the backs J. Leyden played well, it was probably his best gamt this season. Hall played his usua safe game, and Weir showed improvec form behind the serum. T. Mawhin ney, playing second five-eighth, would with a little coaching and experience develop into a useful back. F M'Skimming was the pick of the three quarter line. The teams were:' — Gimmerburn (Red and Black). — Hall, M< Skimming, L. Churchill M« Skimming, Mawhinncy, Leyden (capt.), "Weir, Clark, Hartley, O'Neill (3), D. Hall, C. O'Malley and C. Lewis. The Red backs started a passing rush, but through faulty handling Weir saved witli a speculator. Good work by Morgan and Leask play was taken to Gimmerburn's twenty-five, but a knockon spoilt the effort. Sweeney, with a nice run down the line, kicked before being collared and Churchill marked and returned play to the visitors line where, from a scramble, C. O'Malley scored. Leyden failed to add the additional points.—Gimmerburn 3, Becks nil. ; Becks forwards came away from a line-out and looked dangerous but Hall saved nicely by finding touch. Leask's attempt at goal from a freekick was unsuccessful. Gimmerburn forwards took a hand in the attack hut Leask returned to halfway, his kick was too hard and Hall forced. From a line-out Gimmerburn. secured and Leyden passed to Mawhinncy, who cut in nicely but a forward pass spoilt the movement. Berry relieved the pressure but the Red forwards, led by O'Malley, returned to Becks' twentyfive. Becks' backs, however, took play to Hall who made no mistake in saving his side. Frampton fumbled a return badly and F. M< Skimming took play to Reds' twenty-five where Leask saved. Several likely movements tvere spoilt by faulty handling and a greasy ball. V. O'Neill was promin. ?nt in a break-away by the Red forwards. Dowdle and Sizemore showed up in a break-away from a line-out. Morgan failed to pick up and T Ma-

whmney kicked through but off-side play spoilt a likely chance and an exchange of kicks gave the home side the advantage territorially. J. O'Neill was prominent in a break-away from the scrum, but over-kicking spoilt the effort, the ball going out. Scrambling play and frequent line-outs being the order of the next few urinates play. The Bed backs opened up a likely movement whicfc Leyden broke up and found touch. The Beds started attacking strongly. Leyden, securing from a scrum, passed to Afawhinney, who went too far on his own. Leask relieved with a good touch kick. Berry and Leyden each saved for their side in turn. Leask had a good but unsuccessful shot at goal. Churchill opened «P a good movement, the play going deep into the visitors' twenty-five where the home forwards broke through, but kicked too hard and in -i for the ball Becks managed to force. Half-time was then called.Gimmerburn 3, Becks nil. On resuming Becks attacked strongly, the forwards taking pl ay to the home line and from the ensuing scramble the Beds forced. From a mark Leyden crossed-kicked to P. M'Skimming who, ran strongly for the corner and passed out to Lewis who finished off with a good try. Leyden converted.—Gimmerburn 8, Becks 0. G. Berry broke away on his own but was unsupported, and Churchill returned play to Becks twenty-five where J. Lewis showed up in a good movement and took play to the Becks hne. and V. O'Neill scored.
