KOKONGA NOTES.
(Own Correspondent)
The weather during the past few weeks has been foreign to Central Otago, therefore interesting, the mist hanging like a pall to the foot of the mountains, and topped by heavy black clouds, and intermittent showers, only enough to retard harvest work.
Great interest has been taken in the annual sheep-dog trial held recently at Kyeburn. As competitors with good records were coming from a distance the farming community turn? Ed out in large numbers to witness the proceedings. The programme presented an interesting number of items and the committee has every reason to be satisfied with the success of the meeting.
Locally the majority of crop is in stack, owing to second growth the larger share will be chaffed. During the mon hj the threshing mill has been around the Kyeburn district working from the stook, but owing to adverse weather making little headway. In Upper Kyeburn alone about 1000 acres (in stook) are a waitiug operations. Further down rye six weeks cut will yet have to be buffeted by the elements 'at the rate things are going. The stock sale held during the month at Waipiata showed a marked increase on the previous sale on all classes of sheep ; ewes were attracting attention and lambs suitable for finishing off on the surplus stubble were readily taken up at advanced prices. Kumois are afloat that the Waipiata factory (lately used as a rabbit canning affair) is about to. change hands and extend its working capacity in other directions.
