DOCTOR FOR OMAKAULAUDER DISTRICTS.

The Vincent Hospital Board by a majority of one carried a motion appioving of the Department's report and recommendation in favour of a doctor's residence and cottage hospital being erected at Lauder. The motion was supported by Messrs Smart, Ray and Spain. \ Mr M'Knight, seconded by Mr Brodrick, moved an amendment that consideration of the report be postponed to enable the Board to secure mi expiession of opinion from a more representative meeting of ratepayers affected.—The amendment was lost.

A telegram protesting against the residence being placed at Lauder was received, signed from Messrs Anderson, Harrex, M'lntosh, Marshall, Nevill (2), Stuart and Webster.

The Maniototo Board strongly supported the proposal of erecting the residence at Lauder and on no account at Omakau, giving as their reason that if placed at Omakau it would cut off Blackstone Hill and Ida Valley districts. The letter also pointed out that the residents in the St Bathans Medical Club area had guaranteed j£6oo on debentures forjthe purpose o£ a doctor's residence at Becks or Lauder.

Since the meeting of the Vincent Board and as a sequel to the Board's decision to support the erection of the residence at Lauder the committee have visited Lauder and after inspecting several likely sites, decided on a site on Mr James Clouston's property near the railway crossing, comprising rive or six acres of freehold .well supplied with water which comes down a

gully, and gives a good supply avail able for both domestic and irrigation purposes. The site is said to be very well adapted for the purpose.
