One of the speakers at the Land League meeting on Saturday drew a somewhat appropriate picture in his arguments for closer settlement. He knew of a man who left this district a short time ago with in his possession to look for land whereon to settle, lie was unable to secure any land here, and lit: went away and paid .£OO an acre for land which afterwards proved to be unequalled 11 that in this district. Here was an instance of the injustice being wrought on the people of Central Otago by the Land Hoard, and the lime was opportune for the people to show th? Hoard that they intended to gel the land and w.iuld not sup until their demin.ls werj acceded.
