A race meeting will be held at Fernbroke on 17th March, when £54 will be given away in stakes, Maniopoto and the Auoklander Apologue are entered for the Doncaster Handicap and Sydney Cup.

Nominations in connection with the Tuapeka Jockey Club's meeting, to be held on 7th and Bth February, close on 26th inst. Three more trotters from J. A. Bnckland's N.S.W. station arrived in Christchurch last week to be trained by C. Piper. The annual race meeting of the Nevis Sports Club takes place on February 2nd. I understand that quite a large number of promising cattle are in training at the Nevis. In all probability De Witte, winner of a double at Wingatui at Xmas, will be taken up for the Nursery Handicap at Wellington, and he should have an exceptional chance with 8 5 up.

I understand that Vincent was never nominated for the Naseby racos. On seeing the son of King Harold among the nominations, the owner immediately wired the secretary withdrawing the nomination.

Mr 0. Deady's Replete gained a win at the Hokifcika races 'ast week, capturing the Stewards Handicap of 35 sovß., six furlongs, and paying £ll2s. He also ran a good second the second day with 10.1 on his back. A woman who lives alongside the pawnshop, close to Wren's famous Oollingwood tote (Vic), avers that she has known men to undress in the right-of-way, so as to put their shirts and waistcoats " up the spout," and back the dead bird with the proceeds. Sequel to the rßcent raid on Christchurch betting houses was that Mat Livingstone pleaded guilty to a charge of keeping a common gaming house, and, it being his first offence, he was fined £SO. Barnett and Grant, and John Ross pleaded not guilty, and having asked for trial by jury, on a prima facie case being made out, they were committed for trial, bail being allowed. Maurice Hyslop, charged with assisting in the conduct of a gaming house, was also committed. A number of men and boys found on Koss' premises were released, defendants swearing that they had legitimate business there.
