Dunstan District Hospital.

The annual meeting of subscribers to the Dunstan Distsict Hospital was held at Clyde on Thursday last. Aftoui a dozen subscribers were present, Mr C. 0. Hutton being in the chair. Annual Report op Trustees. The annual report of the trustees of the institution was read as follows : "Your trustees in presenting their report for the past year have pleasure in saying that everything pertaining to the institution has progressed in a most satisfactory manner. We would like, however, as a token of respect to the memory of our late confrere, Mr Edward M'Manus, to express our regret at the loss of his valuable services. We have pleasure in stating that the usefulness of the institution has been fully maintained, due in a great measure to what may truthfully bi termed the elaborate care and strict attention given to their respective duties by the medical, nursing and house staffs. Several operations of a complicated and serious nature have been performed during the year, at which the honorary medical staff gave their prompt and unstinted attention, therefore to them individually and collectively your trustees would ask for a special vote of thanks by the contributors. The only special expenditure during the year has been in connection with the telephone connecting the town with the institution, and which, we think, will be much appreciated, and the thorough" distempering of the hospital internally. This was a work called for by the Inspector of Hospitals, Dr Macgregor and his subs. This work we are assured will add to the comfort and well being of the patients. The grounds round and about the Institution have come in for a good deal of attention, and add greatly to the comfort of the inmates.

During the year, that is from 1/1/05 to 1/1/06, 51 patients were admitted, whilst four remained in from the previous year, accordingly 55 have been treated. The patients admitted were from—Alexandra 14, Alexandra district 5, Clyde 7, Blacks and Matakanui districts 13, Chatto Creek 4, Cromwell district 4, Nevis 2, Dunedin 2. The number of days stay was 1486, giving an average of 27 days per patient." Tne balance-sheet was read showing the receipts and expenditure for nine months ending December 31st, 1905 as follows -.—Receipts, £751 8s; expenditure, £656 10s 3d; leaving a credit bank balance of £94 17s 9d. The liabilities were : Hospital painting contract £45.

The report as read was received, and the balance-sheet adopted. Mr Barry proposed—That it be a recommendation to the trustees to amend the rules re maintenance by contributors—that subscribers of 5s pay 25s weekly, of 10s pay 20s, of 20s pay 15s; non-subscribers 30s.—Seconded by Mr J. Wilson. Several gentlemen spoke against the motion, which, on being put to the meeting, was declared lost. On the motion of Mr Hutton, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the hospital staff for the efficient manner in which they had carried out their duties. Mr C. C. Hutton was re-elected a trustee. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the outgoing trustees, and a vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
