(From an Occasional Correspondent.) A most successful social was held in the Ophir Schoolhouse on Friday, July 3rd, when the residents of Ophir, Ida Valley, and surrounding districts met to wish Mrs Gavan prosperity in her new business. Mr Gallagher, after referring to Mrs Gavan's many good qualities, presented her with a purse of sovereigns. Then followed short speeches by Messrs Flannery, Kinney, Dawson, and Wilson, who all eulogised Mis Gavan'* many sood qualities, particulary her kindness and thoughtfulness for all persons. All these gentlemen referred tn glowing terms to Mrs Gavan's large-hearted-ness, and one and all wished her every prosperity in her new home. As Mrs Gavan was only going to take up her residence at the Parmer's Arms Hotel, Moa Greek, she would still be among her Ophir friends; so they were glad to say they were not altogether bidding her farewell. Dr M'llroy in a few appropriate words returned thanks on behalf of Mrs Gavan. After refreshments had been done ample justice to, dancing was indulged in till the small hours, when all returned home after a most enjoyable evening.
