Mr G. H. Nicoll will leave Ashburton for Christchurch to-day to attend, as Ashburton delegate, the annual conference of the South Island Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Association. The conference will conclude on Saturday.

Mr Graham C. Edgar, 8.C0m., A.R.A. (N.Z.), of Wellington, has been awarded the 1950 travelling scholai'ship of the New Zealand Society of Accountants. • Mr Edgar, who is 26, hopes to leave for Britain early next year to study there for about two years.—P.A.

Members of the Ashburton Swimming Centre met recently to pay tribute to the long service given by Mr H. P. Milsom to swimming in the district. The president of the Centre (Mr G. Bowman) made special mention of the service given by Mr Milsom over the past 17 years as secretary and treasurer of the local centre and presented him with a service award blazer of the N.Z. Amateur* Swimming Association. This award is granted by the N.Z. Council at its annual general meeting and is given in recognition of services rendered to swimming in one of the districts. Mr] Milsom suitably replied.
