Gun Battle in Detroit.—A distraught father fought a gun battle with 200 police in Detroit in a futile effort to prevent them from taking his son to gaol. One policeman was killed and another wounded before Charles Gordy (53) succumbed to tear-gas. Gordy began firing from a window as two policemen led his handcuffed son away after arresting him on robbery charges.—New York, November 19.
