TWO MEN ARRESTED

ALLEGED EXPORT OP GOLD (Rec. 12.45.) NEW YORK, Nov. 20. An Australian, who gave the name of Charles Henry Manning, and an American, Manfred Fleigel, were arrested • to-day as they were about to board a plane for India. Federal agents alleged they had 250,000 dollars worth of gold in their possession. They were charged with violating the Gold Reserve Act by conspiring to.transport and export gold without a Treasury licence.

They were released on bail. The United States Attorney, Mr Frank Parker, said the men were accused of having. about 1501 b of gold between them. This amount, at a fixed Government price of 35 dollars an', ounce, was worth 84,000 dollars in the United States, but abroad it could be„ sold for as much an 100 dollars an ounce. Mr Parker said the men claimed they did not know what was in their luggage. They stated they met a man in a restaurant, who offered them 1000 dollars to take the bags to a friend in Bombay.
