SEA OF WATER
BOURKE STILL SURROUNDED (Rec. 11 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Over 200 residents of Bourke are working 15 hours a day to keep the flooded Darling river out of the town. Last night the river was at the record height of 4G feet above normal, and is still rising. Bourke is surrounded on three sides by a sea of water 25 miles wide,'which is lapping the top of six miles of the levee. Patrols of 60 men stood guard throughout last night, and reinforced weak points with sheets of corrugated iron. All roads are cut, but the railway line is still open.
