HUGE IRRIGATION DAM
PROJECT IN VICTORIA (Rec. 11.20.) MELBOURNE, This Day. The State Government has accepted a tender of £11,360,000 by an American firm to build a huge irrigation dam in Victoria. The Premier, Mr McDonald, says the dam, which will be on the Goulburn River at. Eildon, between Alexandria and Jamieson, will have a storage capacity of 2,750,000 acre feet the largest artificial water storeg in the Southern Hemisphere. The work will start at the end of this year, and will take four years. The successful tenderer is the Utah Construction Company. Other tenderers. comprised four British, one New Zealand and three American firms. The contract is the biggest ever entered into ‘in Australia for a single construction. The previous reford was the Sydney harbour bridge, which cost £10,100,000, including land resumptions.
