NEW CONCRETE
t USE OF AIR BUBBLES ) Tiny air bubbles are substituted for > sand in a new concrete now being r tested in the United States. The ; concrete is,said to be suitable for the ; construction of walls and roofs of ' farm buildings. It also may be possible to use it on highways. , | Air-bubble concrete is prepared in /conventional mixing equipment. An aerating agency, such as resin powder, is added to the mix to cause it to foam and become porous. The air bubbles constitute up to 30 per cent, of the volume of the concrete. j ; According to scientists of the United I States National Bureau of Standards, where the new concrete is being developed, the many tiny' air bubbles enclosed within the material “make the product lighter in weight, a better insulator against heat or cold, and more resistant to water penetration.” The air-bubble concrete is 30 per cent, lighter than ordinary concrete.
