Russian aid had “laid the foundation stone for the re-emergency of German national sovereignty,” the East German President, Otto Grotewohl, declared to-day in. a statement ' commemorating the ninth anniversary of Hitler’s attack on Russia.
“The victory of the Soviet army over Hitlerite barbarism opened a new chapter in German history,” the East German Government in its anniversary statement said. “Piratical Hitler Fascism has been succeeded by an equally piratical Anglo-American imperialism seeking to conquer the world and force our people into a new June 22.”
In Moscow “Pravda,” the official Communist organ, commented: “The new claimants to world supremacy would be well advised to mind the ignominous end of their Fascist predecessors.” Russia had beaten Germany single-handed said “Pravda,
