PROTESTS ARE IGNORED

EXPEDITIONS IN ANTARCTIC ARGENTINIANS ON BRITISH SOIL iN .Z.P A.-Router—Copy right l (Rec. 10.35 a.m.) LONDON, June 21. Mr Kenneth Younger, Minister of State, told the House of Commons this afternoon that an Argentine expedition was now on Deception Island, in the Antarctic, without Britain’s permission. “Two written protests against the Argentine’s trespass on British soil were delivered in March’ to the Argentine base leader, but no reply has been received.” he said. Mr B. Braine (Conservative) asked: “What steps are being taken to resist this insolent incursion into British territory, and if the Minister has any doubt, will he consult the books’ and see what Lord Palmerston would have done.” ~ •• Mr Younger replied: “I do not always think that Lord Palmerston is a model for what should be done in the year 1950. I assure the House, however, that we wish to have this settled in the proper way by international action. We have tried, but failed, because the Argentine is not obliged to accept litigation in the International Court, but we hope that, other forms of international action may eventually succeed.”
