SHEER NONSENSE

DAMMING OF RHINE PLANS TO PREVENT INVASION (N.Z.P. A.—Copyrlsrh*' (Rec. 9.40 a.m.) BERLIN, June 20. The American High Commissioner, Mr John McCloy, said to-day that he had no doubt that the Western Powers had made plans for demolitions in Western Germany in the event of invasion from the East, stated the Associated Press. There were, however, no plane to flood great areas or dam the Rhine. Mr McCloy’s statement followed reports that roads around the famed Lorelei mountain on the Rhine had been prepared for demolition on occupation orders. The Communists have claimed that the plan was to blow up the Lorelei mountain into the Rhine, flooding huge areas and closing it to navigation.- - Mr McCloy’s statement said that while he, had no doubt that there were certain demolition plans in connection with the defence of Germany against aggression from the East, Communist propaganda about flooding great areas and damming the Rhine was sheer nonsense. -•-
