SYNTHETIC RUBBER IN U.S.

GOVERNMENT FACTORIES TO CONTINUE WASHINGTON, June 19. Legislation keeping the United States Government in the synthetic rubber business for two more years was passed to-day by the House of Representatives and sent to President Truman for signature. The House last month voted for h three-year programme, but agreed on the Senate’s insistence to a two-year programme. ■ The purpose of the hill is to keep in operating or stand-by condition the synthetic rubber factories built during the war to help to offset the shortage of natural rubber. These factories, representing a Government in : vestment of 700,000,000 dollars, can produce 900,000 tons of rubber a year. The law permits the President to establish a fixed level of annual production and consumption of synthetic rubber.
