CRICKET

HAWKE GUP WIN FOR HAWKE’S RAY (P.A.) NAPIER, April 11. Hawke’s Bay to-day wrested the Hawke’ Cup, the emblem of supremacy in minor Association cricket, from the holders, Hutt Valley, by four wickets. The game provided a triumph for Anderson, the Hutt Valley wicketkeeper, who during the match took six wickets. A sporting gesture by Robertson, the Hutt Valley captain, at a vital stage of the match won the admiration of the spectators. With the score at five for 155 and with Hutt Valley requiring a couple of quick wickets to change the complexion of the game, he was instrumental in recalling a player who had been given out by the umpire for an apparent snick to the wicketkeeper. Hutt Valley made 202 and 164, and Hawke’s Bay 163 and six for 204 (H. Reaney 50, Johnson 33, Perrin 25, Pulford 30, Spence not out 27, and Kevill not out 16). Reid took one wicket for 45, runs, Muir two for 69, Blair two for 32, Robertson one for 27.
