The Amman correspondent of Reuter says that more tnan 300,000 Jordanians and Palestinians Avill be entitled to vote to-day in general elections for Jordan’s 40-seat Chamber of Representatives. For 157,000 voters living in Jordanheld Palestine, it will be their first chance to express their Avill by ballot. They will return 20 deputies for Western Jordan. According to the general belief, the elections were ordered to consolidate the repeated claim of King Abdullah for the right formally to annexe the remaining portion of Palestine. The King had promised to transform the present “powerless” Parliament into “a more democratic organ” to which Cabinet should be responsible, but the promise Avas qualified by the proviso that the transformation Avould come after the settlement of the Palestine problem and after stability was achieved.
