DISTURBANCE AT CATHEDRAL

INTRUDER IN PULPIT IN NOTRE DAME PARIS, April 9. A youth wearing a hired Dominican robe created an uproar by going into the pulpit during High Mass at the Notre Dame Cathedral to-day. Other youths in zoot suits set off fireworks and squibs among the crowded congregation, which included hundreds of British visitors. The uproar began just as Archbishop Riquet was about to enter the pulpit to give his Easter sermon. A youth shouted: “I accuse the Roman Catholic Church of turning our thoughts towards an empty sky. fine Church is a canker of the West. The great organ of Notre Dame pealed out its deepest notes to drown the intruder’s words. Then the youth lumped from the pulpit. His robe tripped him as he ran to the doors, pursued by priests and worshippers. Outside the cathedral, police took up the chase. Later, four men were arrested. The police said that they -were a group of Existentialists who had spent the night drinking. Three were later released.
