OFFICIAL VISIT

PRIME MINISTER IN CHRISTCHURCH (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Mar. 16: The Prime Minister (the Hon. S. G. Holland) is paying his first x official visit to Christchurch—his home town since he was sworn in. Formal receptions are foremost, among his engagements, but he is taking all available time to attend to urgent questions affecting Christchurch. ' The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr E. H. Andretvs) gave a reception last » evening which Avas attended by about 1000 persons in the Civic Theatre. Tributes were paid to Mr Holland by the Mayor, the Deputy-Mayor (Mr J. N. Clarke), Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P., and the chairman of the Canterbury division of the National Party. Mr Holland Avas in a happy mood in reply Avhen he recalled amusing highlights of his career. He paid tribute to the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser and the previous Government, and appealed for the good will of the people in the Avork ahead. 1 '

During his stay Mr Holland will inspect Harewood airport, where Cabinet has authorised work-.to bring the runways to international standard, and also the old Provincial Council Chambers, where it *is proposed to hold a short session of Parliament in Canterbury's centennial year. Mr Holland will spend Sunday on his farm in North Canterbury, and leave for Blenheim on Tuesday.
