RESULT OF PAST ELECTION
MR HOLLAND COMMENTS ON CHANGEOVER (P.A.) DUNEDIN, March 15. Acknowledging a civic welcome to the city extended by the Mayor (Sir Donald Cameron) the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) said that a change of government in any country was an important event, and the recent one had been smooth and quick without bitterness or recrimination. “ ‘This is democracy at work,’ Mr Fraser said when we shook hands at the changeover,” said Mr Holland. “I replied; ‘This is the will of the people.’ ” “I mention this,” Mr Holland said, “to remind myself and you that there are many countries in the world where such is not possible, and some where the people do not even have the will to make a change. So long as we hold fast to the will to dissent, so long will democracy survive.”
