POOR RESPONSE
Food For Britain Appeal The response to the appeal for parcels of food, soaps, tins of fat,, etc., being conducted this week by the Rotary Club and Junior Chamber of Commerce has, so far, been most disappointing. Some tins of meat .and fat were left at the receiving depot (the Patriotic Stall) on Monday and yesterday, but up to this morning the appeal generally appears to have fallen on deaf ears. As the food position in the Homeland is well known, and the monotony of the diet of our kith and kin has been publicised from time to time, it was felt by the organisers that Ashburton people would be glad to assist those who, during the war years and post-war period, have lived on very meagre rations. New Zealand is a land of plenty and is experiencing prosperous times, and the current appeal is to aid those who are not so happily situated as ourselves.
The Patriotic Stall will be open again to-morrow and on Friday for the reception of parcels of foods, fats, soap, etc., or monetary gifts; and then, on Saturday, a house-to-house collection of foodstuffs will be conducted throughout the Borough and town district of Tinwald.
