RECORD BROKEN
AMERICAN NEGRO SPRINTER MELBOURNE, March 13. The American negro sprinter, Barney Ewell, bettered the world s professional 220 yards record by 2-10 sec at the Bendigo Gift meeting today. Ewell off scratch finished third, recording 20.9 seconds. He also broke the record in the semi-final,, registering 21 seconds. The winner of the final was B. J. Hogan, of Bendigo, off 13J yards. The final of the Bendigo Thousand (130 yards) was won by S. P. Baldwin, of Broken Hill, off 8| yards. Ewell was beaten in the semi-final when he was penalised one yard for breaking. Baldwin won £BOO as first prize.
