WOMEN’S DIVISION
TE KITEROA FUNCTION The weather proved unsuitable for the outdoor garden fete arranged to be held on , Saturday last in the grounds of Te Kiteroa Rest Home, Waimate. The Methodist Hall was loaned for the alternative function, and a busy time was spent preparing for the expected crowd. The Waimate branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers excelled themselves in preparing and servicing afternoon tea, under difficult conditions, to hundreds of visitors. Mrs B. Evans (chairman of Te Kiteroa Rest Home Committee) presided, and welcomed the large assembly. Major N. A. Rattray opened the function. [ Mrs H .Hunt, a foundation member and former Dominion vice-president, gave a short address on Division matters of importance. The various neighbour-provincials were responsible . for the preparation of stalls. Southland, sweets; Otago, aprons, etc.; South Canterbury, produce and cakes; North Canterbury, general; Mid-Can-terbury, miscellaneous; North Otago, ice cream and women’s and children’s wear. A brisk business, ensued, and the heavily laden stalls were soon depleted. Valuable competitions had been in circulation for some time, and will be finalised in all probability at the inter-provineial conference to be held in Ashburton to-morrow. Bus loads of people from Otakau, Dunedin, Oamaru, Ashburton and Timaru, besides private car loads, visited the home during the afternoon. The financial result of the function is very encouraging.
