RUGBY REFEREES
OFFICERS FOR YEAR The annual meeting of the Ashbur'ton Rugby Referees’ Association was | held at the A. and P. rooms on Satur- : day. There was a moderate attendance. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, Mr V. Crequer; vice-president, Mr N. Jones; secretary and treasurer, Mr B. Sutherland; delegate to Rugby Union, Mr Jones; Referees’ Appointment Board, Messrs Jones and K. Doig; committee, president, secretary and Messrs R. Bryce, S. Alexander, Doig, A. Cox and J. Telfer. Appreciation was expressed to Mr R. Bryce, the retiring secretary, for his many years of service. Local representative games during last season were controlled by Ashburton referees, and the North Otago Rugby Union expressed their thanks for the manner in which Mr K. Hood' controlled a game there. It was decided that future fortnightly meetings of the association bg held at the Community Centre, beginning on April 6. An urgent appeal is being made to all previous players who are not taking up football again to consider keeping an active interest in the game by joining the Referees’ Association this year and taking an interesting part in a sport from which they have derived much pleasure. Any such player who so desires is 1 enjoined to attend the next meeting.
