BOOKMAKERS BEFORE COURT
FINES OF £3O INFLICTED (P.A.) OAMARU, March 11. Herbert Sydney Berryman, George Alexander Herron and Donald William McDougall, all of Oamaru, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court this morning before Messrs H. Colquhoun and J, M. Hendy, J.P.’s. They were charged with carrying on the business of bookmaking on March 11. Each pleaded guilty. Mr Hendy said that there was a maximum, penalty of £SOO, but as each was a'first offender and was operating in only a small way, fines of £3O would be imposed in each case.
