GERMAN POLICE
PUNISHMENT DEMANDED (Rec. 10.5 a.m.) v BONN, March 12. The British High Commissioner, Sir Brian Robertson, demanded punishment for Germen police who let German workers beat up British officers, ransack. British offices and stone British tanks- during, the recent antidismantling; demonstrations. General Robertson, in a special communique, also described as “quite untrue” allegations that British troops which were called in had orders to shoot anyone breaking through the police cordon. “It should be plainly understood, however, that when troops are called in to preserve public order because the police are unable to do 30, their commander has the right and duty to order them to use their arms if other methods are ineffectible.” General Robertson-' added: “The demolitions will continue as planned.” —Reuter.
