MUSICAL CLUB
YEAR’S' OFFICERS ELECTED The annual meeting of the Ashburton Musical Club was held on Saturday evening. The president, Mrs A. T. Smith, presided over a good attendance. The annual report, which gave a comprehensive review of the past season’s activities, and the balance-sheet, which disclosed a credit balance, were adopted. The following officers for 1950 were elected:—Patron, Mr E. Buchanan; president, Mrs A. T. Smith; yice-presi-dents, Misses L. Watt, M. Jennings, L. Lewis, and M. Brown; honorary secretary, Mrs C. Campbell; honorary treasurer, Miss N. Lewis; committee, Mesdames R. S. McKeage, C. E. Moller, K. O’Keefe, IVL Hope and Misses H. Brown and B/Brown; auditor, Mr L. G. Parke. The president, on behalf of the committee and members, made a presentation to the retiring secretary and treasurer, the Misses M. and B. Brown, as a token of appreciation for the work they had done over the past nine and seven years respectively. The presentation took the form of a floor lamp, accompanied by flowers.. The meeting concluded with a social hour and supper. The items were: Pianoforte solos, “The Girl with the Flaxen Hair” (Debussy), Miss L. Lewis; “Minuetto from E Minor Sonata, Dp. 7” (Greig), Mrs R. S. McKeage; dulcitone solo, Sonata (Mozart), Mrs M. Hope; vocal solo, “The Nightingale” (Kjerulf), Miss H. Brown; vocal solo with dulcitone accompaniment, “My Mother Bids Me Bind My Hair” (Haydn), Mrs A. T. Smith. The accompanist was Mrs M. Hope.
