PAINT STORE GUTTED
BLAZE IN WELLINGTON (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Fire gutted the premises of Smith and Smith, Limited, oil, paint and hardware merchants in Lower Cuba Street, Wellington, in the early hours of this morning. The outbreak occurred about 4 a.m., and the building, which had a concrete front, ivas soon a mass of flames, Avith pungent dense smoke. Eleven fire engines and total firefighting creivs of 65 using 14 leads of hose Avere engaged, and it Avas an hour and a half before entry could be gained into the building. > The burning inferno Avas eventually brought under control, but the building Avas destroyed.
