APPEAL NEXT WEEK

FOOD FOR BRITAIN t LIBERAL RESPONSE ANTICIPATED Beginning on Monday and continuing through next week, a special appeal is being made to every household throughout the town and county to contribute foodstuffs, fats, money, etc., to the Food for Britain appeal organised by the Rotary Club and Junior Chamber of Commerce. Contributions of tinned meats, foods, tinned fats, soap, etc., may be left at the Patriotic Stall, in East Street, on any day from Monday morning to Friday afternoon, and representatives of local organisations will be in attend ance to receive all donations, whether in cash or in kind. The week’s appeal will conclude on Saturday when a special house-to-house collection will be made right throughout the whole Borough and township of Tinwald. Householders are requested to leave their contribu tions at the gate, or in a conspicuous place, so that the collection may be made as expeditiously as possible. The Red Cross Societies throughout the county are helping this appeal—which has their sympathy and blessing—and the various branches have promised to do all they can to make it a success.

When the foodstuffs are received and sorted out, arrangements have been made by the Red Cross Society to have them properly packed and shipped away in. bulk, as this is the most economical way to consign these goods. , - In connection with this appeal the Town Clerk (Mr R. C. Major) says that fat is, and always has been, a most acceptable help. He explained that edible fat is sent direct to Britain with food parcel shipments, and that from the sale of other fat some 60 per cent, of money to buy food had been obtained previously. He added that carriers would always bring fat in, with no charge, to the Patriotic Stall.

The organisers appeal for a generous and prompt response, as the need in Britain, to-day, is still very real.
