Mr Will Appleton will probably retire in November from the Wellington mayoralty after 33 years of local body service. This information was given by him to the New Zealand Municipal Association conference in Auckland yesterday, when he was reelected unopposed as president of the association. —P.A. Mr .T. H. Ward, inspector of factories for the Ashburton office of the Department of Labour and Employment, will leave Ashburton on April 15 for Christchurch, where he will take over the position of assistantsecretary and organiser for the Canterbury Hotel and Restaurant Workers’ Union. Mr Ward has been with the department at Ashburton for about six years. Mr J. L. Pedlow, who has been manager of the St. James Theatre, for the past three years and who is at. present spending his vacation in Southland, was advised last night of his transfer on promotion to the position of manager at the Embassy Theatre in Dunedin. The transfer will take place about March 24, and Mr Pedlow’s position will be filled by a Mr Pate from the North Island. Mr H. S. Williams, who is South Island relieving manager for Kerridge-Odeoi) Theatres, will leave for Nelson in a relieving capacity about the same time.
