GOOD SALE OF ROMNEYS TOP PRICE OF 38 GUINEAS Top price of 38 guineas at tlie Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s ram fair, held at. the Ashburton showgrounds yesterday, Avas secured by the Greendale breeder, Mr L. H. Adams, for a one-shear South(lown • stud; ram, the purchaser being Mr J. C. Jtfsdee (Temuka), who in the morning had paid the highest price for flock rams, that of 25 guineas, the vendor being Mr L. Bain (Ashburton). This price Avas later equalled ■ when tAvo one ; shear Romneys were sold. Entries in the stud ram section were comparatively few, and bidding Avas.sloAv at the outset.
Although only a small bench of buyers waited for the Romney sale, the breed sold Avell. Many excellent types Avere offered, and competition Avas keen throughout. Entries from Mrs H. Tait (LOAveliffe) and Mr Colin Gallagher (Ealing) received special attention. Mr Colin Gallagher, Avho received the highest price in the flock ram section last year, sold four this year at 24gns. This price Avas exceeded only by Mrs Tait. The SouthdoAvn-Border Leicester cross rams (315 entries) were popular at the beginning, Avhen prices Avere firm, but suffered because of the late hour at which the sale concluded. Sales Avere:
