DRAWN GAME

. MATCH AT TIMARU AUSTRALIANS AGAINST COMBINED TEAM r (P.A.) TIMARU, This Day. Steady rain setting in at about 3.30 p.m. ended play in the match between the touring Australian eleven and the combined South Canterbury-Ashburton team at Fraser Park yesterday afternoon with the match definitely in the visitors’ hands. In reply to the Australian first innings total of 390 for 8 wickets declared the combined team were in a difficult position when rain interrupted' play with 4 wickets down for 31 runs in their second umiiigs Highlight of the second day’s play wa<? the delightful innings played by the South Australian, L. Duldig, who. going in at sixth wicket, made 87 runs before Brown applied the closure at lunch. His innings was typified by fine stroke making on all sides of the wicket and his score included 12 fours and 3 sixes. It was unfortunate that he did not have the chance to reach his century before lunch but his knock was placed by the spectators on a parallel with that of Brown on the first day. The combined attdsk looked better yesterday and was steady against the formidable opposition. Saunders finished with the best figures taking 4 for 105 off 23 overs. Lapses werenoticeable in the fielding yesterday but generally the team performed creditably throughout the match. In spite of a heavy spell of rain overnight the wicket was not affected, being covered, but the outfield was noticeably slower. When the combined team started their second innings, scoring was at a very slow rate, being pegged down by Puckett and Iverson who shared the wickets taken during the innings. Brown again demonstrated his mastery over the field by cutting runs down to a minimum. Scores: —
