BOY’S GALLANT EFFORT AT RESCUE

(P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, March 5. In spite of outstanding efforts by a 12-year-old boy, a man lost bis" life while bathing at Oakura beach, nine miles from New Plymouth, this afternoon. He was:

Norman Francis Way, aged 51, a carrier, of New Plymouth. Way, Avho was a married man, Avas swimming Avith the boy, Duncan McGregor, of New Plymouth, nearly a quarter of a mile away from the usual bathing area, Avhen he first got into difficulties. Unaided, the hoy brought Way almost a third of the way to the beach before the alarm was received by the Old Boys’ Surf Club, which patrols the beach. By then it Avas not necessary to man the line, and a club member plunged in and brought Way ashore. He could not be revived. MOTOR-CYCLIST KILLED COLLISION WITH TRUCK (P.A.) AUCKLAND, March 4.
