The position has been created owing to the great amount of extra work entailed* through the main highways scheme, also to the council having taken over many roads from road boards, and having direct control of additional bridges.—Miss M. F. Arnett, formerly lady principal at the Ashburton High School, who has been for an extended tour of the British Isles and the Continent, returned to Christchurch this morning.
