TWO PLANES DAMAGED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A message from H.M.A.S. Australia states that two planes were damaged in operations on the aircraft-carrier Sydney on Friday and Saturday between Wellington and Akaroa. The' two accidents, in which no one was injured, marred a record of 2500 landings without mishap. The_ first accident occurred on Friday afternoon when a Firefly two-seater observation plane missed the tail arrester wire as it was landing and struck the crash barrier’ and control tower. On Saturday a Sea Fury hit the aft end of the landing deck with the tail, smashing the arrester hook and the tail assembly. The plane skidded over the arrester wire, upending against the crash barrier. Crash crews were immediately on the scene. Both pilots and the observer walked unhurt from the two damaged aircraft.
