CLOSING DEMANDED

SECTION OF BRITISH LEGATION (Rec. 10.45) LONDON, March 3. The v Rumanian Government de- , manded the closing of the British Legation information . section in Bucharest “for the protection of Rumanian national interests,” the British Foreign Office announced today. The demand was made yesterday by the Rumanian Deputy-Foreign Minister to the British Minister, Mr Walter Roberts. The Foreign Office spokesman said that Mr Roberts has replied that in view of recent developments _in Sofia and Budapest, and the unfriendly attitude of the Bulgarian and Hungarian Governments, the demand did not surprise him. The Rumanian Deputy-Foreign Minister declared that the activities of the information section were not consistent with the normal functions of a diplomatic mission. The section could not be regarded as part of the Legation. Mr Roberts had maintained that the section was an integral part of the 1 Legation, and he did not intend to discuss the matter further.
