FAREWELL SOCIAL AND PRESENTATION

To hid farewell to Mr and Mrs A. L. Cleland, the residents of Ashburton Forks recently held a dance in the Greenstreet Hall. Mr H. C. Aschen (chairman of the Ashburton Forks School Committee) who presided over a large gathering, said that Mr Cleland had been transferred to the Rokeby School on promotion and briefly stressed the good work both he and his wife had done for the school during the' past four years. Mr M. M. Hunt spoke as a past chairman of the School Committee and as chairman of the Scouts’ Committee. Mr Sandrey spoke on behalf of the Foothills Schools’ Agricultural Clubs. 'Mr M. S. Turton presented the guests of honour with a clock in appreciation of their work while residents of the district, expressing ’ the good wishes for the future. On behalf of the Greenstreet branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers Mrs H. Crouchley (president) presented Mrs Cleland with an engraved serviette ring, Geoffrey Crouchley (senior hoy scout) presented Mr Cleland with a picture expressing the appreciation of the boys for his interest in them as scoutmaster, and Mr V. Hunt (president) thanked Mr Cleland for his help when the Social Club was reformed. Mr V. Hunt was master of ceremonies and Mr R. Pratley provided the music for dancing.
