Tragedy in Sydney. —The police reveal that the man who battered a woman and her daughter to death at Lakemba on Tuesday night rained blows on the girl’s engagement 1 ing finger. The ring was smashed and the bones of the finger fractured. This lias caused the police to follow a definite line of inquiry. The girl announced her engagement at Christmas. The police now believe that the girl was killed first and that the slayer was a young man who knew the family well.— Sydney, This Day.
