WOMAN’S WORLD RECORD
AUSTRALIAN DOES 100 YARDS 10.8 SECONDS (Rec. 11 a.m.) ADELAIDE, This Day. A New South Wales sprinter, Marjorie Jackson, eoualled the world record for 100 yards when she covered the distance in 10.8 seconds. It is doubtful whether the time will be recognised because of conflicting opinions whether the track meets the regulations. Shirley Strickland (West Australia) was a yard away, second. Miss Jackson beat the border of the world record-holder, Fanny Blankers Koen, when she visited Australia last year. In the 440 yards title event, Miss Strickland made a new Australian record of 57.4" seconds, bettering June Maston’s previous record time of 58 seconds. Another Australian record went when the New South Wales relay team, J. Jackson, M. McKinnon, L. Mckenzie and B. Chich, covered 440 yards in 47.7 seconds.
