FIFTY YEARS SYNE
(From the “Guardian,” Nov. 12, 1899). Borough Council The ordinary meeting of the Ashburton Borough Council was attended by the Mayor (Mr Hugo Friedlander) and Messrs Sealy, Jolliffe, Maynard, Davidson, Pauling, Jones, Thomas, Davis and Paul. The Mayor reported that the debit baalnce*at the bank was £1764 2s 9d. He welcomed Mr E. Paul back to a seat on the council. An application from Mr George Willers for a pipe service from the Alford Forest Road was remitted to the engineer.
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO
(From the “Guardian,” Nov. 12, 1924). Band Supports Nurses —The First Canterbury Mounted Rifles’ Band played a programme of music in the County Hospital grounds yesterday afternoon before a fair attendance. The band in good form and the items were greatly appreciated. A collection taken up in aid of the new tennis court for the nurses realised .approximately £7 10s.
