MID-CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIPS
GOLF
Senior Title Won by M. R.
Blank
With a total of 151, M. R. Blank (Waitikiri) won the Mid-Canterbury amateur championship played at Ashburton yesterday over 36 holes. His rounds were 77 and 74, and he was followed in second place by D. J. Scott, of Timaru, who was three strokes more. The course was in better condition than on the previous day, the good fall of rain during the night having an effect on the fast greens.
Large entries were received for this event, and the scoring under the ideal conditions was not good. Blank’s total, was nine strokes more than scratch. Scott is a promising young player, and with more experience will undoubtedly develop into a provincial representative. Yesterday he had ample opportunity to score well, but weaknesses around the greens cost him strokes. Blank also had opportunities to score better, and on the outward half in the afternoon round missed several six-foot puts. He turned in 36 (scratch figures), but dropped two strokes on the way home. Results:— Championship—M. R. Blank, 77, 74—151; D. J. Scott, 78, 76—154; R T. Lambie (Ellesmere), 79, 76—155.
