Service Medals Presented A meeting of the Mayfield Subbranch of the Red Cross Society was held iii the Lodge .Room, when the president (Mrs Joseph Murdoch) presided over an excellent attendance. It was reported that two boxes of tinned food had been packed and sent to England and warm clotliihg for children is to be sent to Miss Watt, in Scotland, for distribution. A welcome was extended to Mesdames Rundle, Christmas, Connor and Mclntosh, of Ashburton. Mesdai*ies Rundle and Christmas presented service medals to the following: —Mesdames W. K. Dellow, J. K. Sewell, B. Forrester, J. J. Mulligan, and Misses E. Goldsmith, G. Ross, M. Branch and L. King, M. Mulligan. The hostess was Mrs W. K. Dellow. Junior Red Cross A very entertaining concert was given by members of the Junior Red Cross . a # t the school recently. The children contributed recitations, songs and an amusing puppet show, “Little Red Riding Hood.’’ A collection amounted to £3 6s Sd to aid their funds. Stableford Bogey Match Members of the Mayfield Golf Club played a Stableford bogey match, the results being as follow: —R. W. Oakley 31, R. Bcnisch' 3-i, E. Goldsmith 31, J. Isaacs 29, L. McLaine 28, Mrs Bean 34, Mrs Oakley 30, Mrs Moore 30, Miss Sewell 2S.

FUNCTION AT LOWCLIFFE DEPARTING RESIDENTS HONOURED The Lowcliffe School was filled to capacity on Saturday evening when friends gathered to honour and bid farewell to Mr and Mrs R. Sclater, who have recently left the district- to reside in Ashburton. Mrs H. Price presented Mrs Sclater with a shoulder spray. Those speaking and making presentations were: For the Lowcliffe; Coldstream Sub-branch of the Red Cross, Mrs E. S. Barnes; for the local branch of the Women’s Institute, Miss G. Murdoch; and on behalf of the head-teacher and School Committee, Mr A. M. Davidson. Mr D. M. Bruce, on behalf of the residents of the Lowcliffe-Coldstream districts, presented Mr and Mrs Sclater with a well-filled envelope. All the speakers mentioned the good qualities of the guests, and thanked them for their interest and help in the district, The evening took the form of . a euchre party and dance. Those gaining highest scores in the cards were Mrs Muir and Mrs T. Taylor. Music for dancing was supplied by Mr S. Gilligan, with extras by Miss J. McKay. Mr G. Barnes acted as. master of ceremonies.

RAKAIA SWIMMING FOOL FURTHER - FUNDS REQUIRED The Rakaia Swimming Pool Committee has during the. past year made every endeavour' to obtain a permit for the erection of the new swimming baths in the Rakaia Domain. Unfortunately, with the continued short supply of steel and cement, permission is held in abeyance in the meantime, until the supply position improves. The committee has £ISOO in hand for the project, and with the risingcosts of materials, etc., it is anticipated that a further substantial sum will be required to complete the programme. It was hoped to have had the baths in use this season, but at the moment it is not possible. The committee, however, is doing all in its power to expedite the project.

HINDS R.S.A, BALL SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION The Hinds R.S.A. held their annual ball in the Hinds Hall recently. There was a good atendance. Music was supplied by Cook’s Orchestra. Novelty dances were won by Mr S. Sim and Miss R. Gill, Mr L. Tilson and Mrs D. McGregor, and Miss Chalmers and partner. The master of ceremonies was Mr T. Parsons. SEAFIELD FUNCTION RESIDENTS HONOURED The residents of Seafield recently gave a complimentary dance to Mr and Mrs L. Bruce, who were recently married. On behalf of the all present Mr J. Martin presented the guests with a carving set. Novelty dances were won by Miss P. Bruce and Mr H. Hydes, and Miss Mather and partner. Mr K. Grice was master of ceremonies.
