All Prices' Unaltered Ashburton merchants are anxiously awaiting the result of tenders submitted to the Government for a large seed order comprising in the main, cocksfoot, ryegrass, short - rotation grass seed, and. white clover. As merchants have to leave offers firm for several days, offers pf seed submitted cannot be negotiated with in other directions. A further Government order is required in the near future and it is anticipated that after fulfilment, very few lines of high germinating. seeds will be held by merchants. A small shipment of lupins was recently made to Australia, and this commodity is now in short supply locally. Potatoes are still inquired for, and owing to the short crop in the South Island, North Island merchants ai’c importing 3000 tons from Tasmania. This should temporarily relieve the position.

A fair quantity of barley is now being dispatched to farmers for spring sowing contracts. Oats are exceptionally dull of sale, but other markets remain firm at recent quotations. Range of Prices The range of prices is as follows, all on trucks at country stations, sacks extra unless otherwise stated: — Wheat—Tuscan 8s 10ld a bushel, Hunters 9s 03d, Velvet 9s 2|d, Marquis 9s 4|d, all f.o.b. (less £d a bushel insurance). Oats —“A” Gartons 5s 2d a bushel (ceiling price), Algerians 4s to 5s a bushel, Duns 5s 3d to 6s a bushel. White Clover —Uncertified 3s lb, permanent pasture 3s sd, mother seed 3s Bd, according to quality. Red Clover —2s lb. Potatoes —P.a.q. Suttbns and Dakotas, £11; whites, £lO 10s; all f.0.b., sacks extra. Gress Seeds —Mother perennial, 16s 6d a bushel; certified permanent pasture, 15s 6d; certified mother, H. 1., 14s 6d'; standard, 13s 6d; brown top, certified 2s lb, uncertified Is 9d lb. Cocksfoot—ls 6d to Is 9d per lb, according to weight and quality. Barley—Chevalier 6s sd, Cape and research 6s 2d a bushel.

Linseed—F.a.q. £32 a ton, contract. Peas —Partridge 14s a bushel (No. l’s), Prussian blues 16s 6d per bushel (No. I’s). ■ . Lupins—9s to 10s a bushel. Chaff—G.B.O.S. £7 a ton.

Egg Prices Buying price for eggs this week is 2s Old plus 7id subsidy per dozen, and the retail price is 2s 31 cl. STOCK PRICES EASIER LARGE YARDING AT ADDINGTON

(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 24. The yarding of store sheep at Addington to-day was 1237 hoggets, 40S ewes and iambs, and 212 wethers, a total of 1857, compared with 1579 last week. For best hoggets the demand was steady, with prices firm. Good hoggets met a rather erratic sale, but prices were up 2s. Secondary and inferior lines were hard to sell, and were inclined to be cheaper. Best ewe hoggets made to 525, good 42s to 48s, others down to 395; best wether hoggets to 52s for good halfbreds, good 38s to 445, and others down to 325. Only eight pens of store ewes were offered, of which two were with lambs. Prices were firm. Best made to 475, good 32s 6d to 38s, and inferior and culls down to 18s. There were only four pens of store wethers. Best made 52s and others, including two shorn pens, made 31s 6d to 3Ss. Ashburton sales of fat lambs were: H. T. Wakelin (Winchmore), 12 at 48s Id to 55s Id. The entry of fat hoggets numbered 721, compared with 942 last week. There was an overall easing of about 2s.
