Mr J. B. Nicoll has been elected a member of the directorate of the Ashburton Gas, Coal and Coke Company (o fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr J. W. Bowden.
Miss Marjorie McKoage, secretary of the Ashburton branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society, who is about to marry and leave Ashburton, was presented last evening with a morning tea set by the collectors of the society, who were entertained at the 'home of the president and Mrs R. G. Harrison. Those who contributed to the success of the evening were the Rev. Sc.hurr, Mrs Wm. Thomas, Miss L. Lewis and Miss I. Jamieson. Opportunity was also taken during the evening to welcome the new actingsecretary, Miss A. Lewis.
