N.Z. TECHNICAL SCHOOLS

OVERSEAS PRINCIPALS' APPOINTMENT (P.A.) . WELLINGTON, Aug. 23. The national executive of the New Zealand Technical School Teachers’ Association has decided “that appointment to a principalship or to one of the higher positions other than a prim cipalship should be given to an overseas applicant only in the most exceptional case with very adequate reasons given.” Announcing this in a statement this evening, the executive said that, “haying given some consideration to the matter of the appointment of overseas applicants for principalships in the New Zealand service it considers that, while overseas teachers of high attainment and diverse experience have a contribution to make to our service,, such teachers, to make that contribution effective, should come into the service at the lower levels in order that they may grow into a knowledge of the New Zealand community.” The executive said that however brilliant a man might be in another environment he might not be successful in a higher position in the New Zealand service. The executive added that if a knowledge of other educational systems was desirable it could be secured by sending New Zealand teachers abroad.
